Types of FTTH Cabinet

Types of FTTH Cabinet : In this article, we will discuss about the cabinet used in FTTH network. Various types of cabinets are used in the FTTH network as per the requirement. Usually cabinets used in FTTH network are - Cabinet Cross-connection 1800/2700 Pair, Cabinet Cross-connection 1200 pairs (Outdoor), Indoor Cabinets 300 and 900-Pairs, Cabinet Outdoor 2400 Pair. 

The Cabinet 1800 , 2700 pairs shall be used to provide an interface between primary and secondary cable’s , and to contain the cable enclosure. Complete information about the cabinet to be used in FTTH network will be given, for this you will have to read the entire article.

Cabinet  Cross-Connection 1800/2700 Pair

The “ Cabinet , cross connection “ shall provide an interface point between the feeder /primary pairs and the distribution / secondary pairs The cabinet shall provide a complete system with all components required for installation and operation . The terminal block system shall be compatible and inter changeable with the existing components , practices , tools and equipment currently in operation within the network.

The FTTH network out door cabinet shell shall be designed and constructed to be suitable for external installation , It shall be dust proof , splash-water tight and prevent corrosion to the terminals contained therein. The indoor models , serving to protect the internal components from interference as opposed to providing a protective environment.

The Cabinet shall be rigidly constructed such that there is no flexing or movement of the cabinet when cross-connection wires are being terminated. The design of the interior and wire guides shall promote good workmanship and organized placement of cross connecting jumpers . Access of incoming cables and their jointing points shall be as convenient as possible for their installation , future maintenance and subsequent placement of additional secondary cables.

This Cabinet design shall be modular so as to facilitate and simplify maintenance and shall consist of the following principal components ; base assembly, racking terminal blocks , shell (removal housing ) and miscellaneous accessories . The internal design will not require the base assembly.
FTTH Cabinet

The out door cabinet shall exhibit due regard for the behavior of plastic materials at elevated temperatures (e.g polyethylene stabilizer limitations ), by incorporating features intended to minimize peak internal temperatures and humidity’s.

FTTH network 1800 pairs outdoor cabinet size - Width = 1314 mm, Depth = 333 mm, Height = 1480 mm. 2700 Pairs Outdoor Cabinet outer dimensions is Width = 1650 mm, Depth = 390 mm, Height = 1480 mm.

The Cabinet design shall incorporate a mounting bracket for a pressure transducer/contactor . The bracket should be drilled with 6 mm holes at 45 mm centers , to match the transducer mounting requirements. The transducer installation mounting will require a free space of 55 X 55 X 110 height (mm)for mounting purposes, plus access to both the top and bottom of the unit to permit feed pipes etc. to be led out , through the base of the shell.

Cabinet Shell

The shell be provided with 1 or 2 doors to access the interior of the cabinet . The doors shall be lockable to prevent unauthorized entry. Two keys for the locks shall be provided with each cabinet. The doors shall open through a sufficiently wide angle to provide full uninhibited access to the interior of the cabinet. The door hings and retainers shall be bolted to the main housing , to enable both doors and hings etc to be exchanged.

The dimension of the shell shall provide a series of jointing position s to permit the jointing of terminal blocks to the incoming primary and secondary cables. The cabinet shell shall be designed to be self supporting and Independent from the cabinet racking and contents . The design shall allow the removal of the shell in its entirety from the internal racking etc , to permit total access to the cabinet contents or for replacement purpose.

Cabinet Cross-connection 1200 pairs (Outdoor)

The shell, door and base of the cabinet shall be of non-metallic materials and must be solvent and stress crack resistant and be compatible with other cabinet materials and materials used in cable manufacture. The cabinet shall be dust proof, splash watertight, weatherproof, and prevent corrosion to the terminals and other hardware contained within.

All metallic parts of the cabinet shall be stainless steel or materials suitably protected against corrosion. There shall be no possibility of galvanic corrosion effects between any of the metallic components. The surface finish of the cabinet shell, base and door shall be reasonably consistent. No glass fiber shall be visible on the surface.

All material used in the cabinet shall be non-toxic and dermatologically safe. The cabinet shall not have any sharp edges or other defects which may be injurious to personnel or potentially damaging to other components and materials used in the cabinet. 

Cabinet Shell of 1200 pairs

Material used in cabinet shell is Glass fiber reinforced polyester or polycarbonate, Outer dimensions are : Width- 754 mm, maximum, Height- 998 mm, maximum, Depth- 310 mm, maximum.

Sandwich wall construction. Roof shall be flushed with the outer shell to allow side by side installation. Roof surfaces shall be slope down on all sides. This type of cabinet allow ventilation of the interior, all vents shall not allow entry of dust, insects, etc. Two-60 mm marked breakouts shall be provided on each side panel on the level of the upper jumper hooks.

For the Ducts and Cables access points- Base shell accommodate four –110 mm OD ducts for the entrance of primary cables . The base shell also allow for the entrance of direct buried type secondary cables. 

Base shell attach to the cabinet shell by metric nuts and bolts. Base shall be 2 parts , upper and lower sections. The upper section shell have a removable front flap for access to installed cables. Base shell have an internal height adjusting and leveling system , which shell operate by the use of 4 nuts and bolts in the upper part of the base. The height adjusting system shell be able to adjust the total base height from 1060 to 1200 mm.

Indoor Cabinet 300 and 900-Pair

The indoor cabinets shall be used to accommodate and provide cross-connection flexibility between the primary entrance cable facilities and the secondary cables or in-building distribution cables/wires. The indoor cabinets shall be installed wall-mounted preferably inside the customer building's telecommunications equipment room. 

The indoor cabinet shall be used with the 10-pair disconnection modules and module label holders for identification of cable connections. The cabinets shall have the following termination block configurations:

1. Size 300-Pair: 100 primary and 200 secondary cable pair terminations
2. Size 600-Pair: 300 primary and 600 secondary cable pair terminations

The indoor cabinets shall be designed and constructed to be suitable for wall mounting installations. The cabinet shall accommodate top or bottom feeding of cables. The indoor cabinets shall be sturdy and impact-resistant against damage during placing or installation operations.

All metallic parts of the indoor cabinets shall be suitably protected against corrosion. There shall be no possibility of galvanic corrosion effects between any of the metallic components. The indoor cabinets shall be of high quality design, workmanship and finish. All components of the cabinets shall be free of sharp edges or other defects that may detract from the service requirements of the cabinet.

300 Pairs : For termination/cross connection of 100 pairs primary cable pairs and 200 pairs in-building distribution cables.

900 Pairs : For termination/cross connection of 300 pairs primary cable pairs and 600 pairs in-building distribution cables.

Cabinet Outdoor 2400 Pair

This cabinet shall be used to accommodate and provide cross-connection flexibility between the primary and secondary networks, with capacity up to 2400 pairs ( maximum). The cabinet shall be used with 10-pair high-density type modules and label holders, with mounting pitch of 17.5 mm maximum.

The shell, door and base of the cabinet shall be of non-metallic materials and must be solvent and stress crack resistant and be compatible with other cabinet materials. The cabinet shall be designed and constructed to be suitable for outdoor installation. It shall be dust proof, splash watertight, weatherproof, and prevent corrosion to the terminals and other hardware contained therein.

All metallic parts of the cabinet shall be stainless steel or an alternative material with similar strength, electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance. There shall be no possibility of galvanic corrosion effects between any of the metallic components.

Material used for cabinet shell is Glass fiber reinforced polyester or polycarbonate. Outer dimensions is Width- 755mm, Height- 1453.5mm, Depth- 310mm. 
Cabinet 2400 pair

Last Word

All type of cabinet shall be packed in individual boxes, fully assembled.
