PAMS Basic Parts


The PAMS is broken down into two basic parts.
(1) The exchange monitor which shall include all the hardware and software required to perform the monitoring of all the sensing devices located within the exchange area and to communicate with the reporting center and issue reports as required.

(2) The reporting center which shall consist of a data terminal required to receive reports generated by the exchange monitor and transmit user instructions. The center shall have a facility to store and load programmed data with any exchange monitor.

When this specification is used in a tender for the purchase of PAMS equipment the equipment shall be supplied together with the associated hardware required for the installation of the equipment.

For the exchange monitor, this shall include but not be limited to, the universal bay, power filter and fuse distribution panel, terminal blocks and mounting hardware for the termination of a minimum of 300 cable pairs on the exchange monitor, sensing modules for the connection of a minimum of 32 contactor type devices and 32 transducer type devices together with interconnecting cable.

PAMS Environmental Capabilities

The PAMS shall be capable of operation from 10°C to 30°C with relative humidity of up to 70 %. Equipment components shall be protected against oxidation Corrosion and fire. All printed circuit boards must be of epoxy glass construction or equivalent.

All precaution must be taken in the design of the equipment to reduce fire risk. A11 cords and cables shall be chosen in accordance with the material specification.

PAMS POWERING

The exchange monitor shall operate on filtered 48VDC ± 4V.A power filter (25 AMPS Min) and fuse distribution panel shall he provided and include circuit breakers, distribution terminals, 20 fuses of at least 1 1/3 AMP for battery and ground connections, major and minor visual alarms together with the provision for their extension to a remote location.

The reporting center equipment shall be capable of operating on both 210-230 VAC and on 110-130VAC, 50-60, Hz and shall be provided with fusing protection and standard cords and plugs.


PAMS Mechanical

The exchange monitor sha11 be designed for mounting on a universal bay with front access only.

The bay shall have the Following characteristics:

(1) Width of 600mm and height of 2700mm
(2) Designed for front access wiring and equipped with ducts or channels to provide mechanical protection for the wiring.
(3) Equipped with a power filter and Fuse distribution panel mounted at the top.

PAMS System Features 

PAMS Monitoring : The PAMS shall be capable of monitoring the following types of sensing devices.

(1) Pressure transducers and flow transducers which meet the specified requirements.
(2) Four state contactors, open, closed, broken or shorted connection.
(3) Contact devices such as pressure contactors both normally open and normally closed types.

PAMS compatible network of sensing

The PAMS shall be compatible with the following network of sensing devices:

Cable pressure monitoring:
(1) Exchange subscriber cables Pressure transducers each wired to one standard telephone network cable pair dedicated for that purpose. 

(2) Junction Cables monitoring. A number of pressure contactors connected to the same standard telephone network cable pair.

Cable or air ripe flow monitoring: 
Flow transducers each wired to one standard telephone network cable pair dedicated for that purpose.

Compressor/dryer monitoring:
Transducers or contactor type devices used to monitor power, high and low pressure, humidity and compressor (s) Failure-These shall include both normally open and normally closed contactor devices.

Each sensing device located within an exchange area shall be scanned at a variable frequency as programmed by the user, with a period from continuous to 24 hours. At the time programmed by the user, a daily "snapshot" of all the sensing devices shall be taken and the reading kept in memory until the next "snapshot".

Except for when the system is communicating alarms or programmed reports, the operator shall be able to perform repeated scans of selected devices, in the real time domain. Faults detected during a scan in the real time domain shall not initiate an alarm report.

When the PAMS fails to obtain a reading from a sensing device because of a faulty sensing device or connection, including a cable,air with excessive noise, an alarm condition shall be reported. The alarm report shall indicate the type of fault.

For each of the sensing devices, the following parameters shall be programmable by the user:

(1) The assignment of the device, a minimum of. 15 assignments shall be provided.
(2) The location of the device, a minimum of 15 alphanumeric characters shall be provided.
(3) The identification of the air circuit, a minimum of 4 alphanumeric characters shall be provided.
(4) The alarm threshold for transducer type devices.

Each exchange monitor shall have a minimum of 24 Kbytes of volatile memory for the storage of programmed sensor data.Each exchange monitor shall he expandable through the use of plug-in sensing modules or a similar method in order to accommodate up to minimum of 400 transducers or 800 contactors of 400 junction cable pairs with contactors in various combinations.

PAMS Communication and software

The PAMS shall be accessible by the operator without affecting the automatic data gathering capabilities of the system.

The following 5 levels of security shall be provided with user programmable passwords of at least 6 alphanumeric characters. Up to 10 passwords may be programmed. The level of security shall restrict the operator to the following routines:

(1) Reading of the data only (Level 5}
(2} Reading of the data and ability to activate reading of individual sensors (Level 4)
(3) Reading and programming of the data for sensing devices, reports, tunes ;and telephone numbers of reporting centers (Level 3).
(4) Reading and programming of all the data except passwords and magnetic cassette handling (Level 2)
(5) Reading and programming of all the data (Level 1)

The following additional parameters shall be programming by the user:

(1) A minimum of 21 alphanumeric characters for identification of the exchange.
(2) The reporting center telephone number of at least 15 digit.
(3) For each of the exchange monitors, any combination of sensing device assignments.
(4) The assignment of exchanges for each of the reporting centers.
(5) The time at which a minimum of five daily status reports are to be issued, including a “Snapshot “reports.

The medium for communications, between the exchange monitor and a reporting center and between any two pieces of equipment located in separate exchange areas, shall be the two wire switched telephone network within the frequency range of 300 to 3000 Hz. The transmission rate shal1 be at least 300 bits per second; the transmission method shall be serial asynchronous.

Reporting centers shall have the option of a hard wired connection to an exchange monitor. Each reporting center shall automatically receive the data from only those exchanges assigned to it ; however each reporting center shall be able to demand data from any exchange.

The data from any exchange shall be transmitted to any combination of at least 8 reporting centers, as programmed by the users.

PAMS Alarm Reports

A11 alarm conditions shall be reported, on an exchange area basis, to the appropriate reporting center (s) and include only the devices assigned to the reporting center involved. Alarm conditions shall include contactor state change, broken or shorted connections, low pressure, high flow, negative pressure trends, positive flow trends, etc.

PAMS Daily status reports

At least five times daily, as programmed by the user, a report of the status of all sensing devices for each exchange area may be issued to the appropriate reporting center(s).

At the request of the user, the following demand reports shall be available:

(1) The status of all sensing devices pertaining to a particular air circuit, telephone assignment, type of device, state or range of readings.
(2) The status of all sensing devices within the exchange,
(3) The phone status for each exchange indicating the number of hours elapsed since successful communication was last established with each of the reporting centers and a weekly summary record of reporting activity.


PAMS Repots shall include the following data:
(1) The exchange identification.
(2) The hegira date and the time (24 hour clock) at the start of the transaction.
(3) The type of report.
(3) For each of the sensing devices:
➤Exchange monitor sensing terminal assignment
➤Location '
➤Air circuit identification.
➤Type of device
➤Alarm threshold level in millibars or grams per hour
➤Current reading in millibars for pressure and grams per hour for flow
➤reading taken at the time of the Last "snapshot".
➤Alarm flag when applicable
➤Number of consecutive days the device has been in alarm.
