Optical Splitter Characteristics Details

Optical Splitter Characteristics Details: Today I will explain about the Optical Splittters.
It plays an important role in passive optical network (EPON, GPON, BPON, FTTX, FTTH and so on) by allowing a single PON interface to be shared among many subscribers. The Optical Splitters shall be used in Telecom exchanges, closures, equipment cabinets, boxes and main equipment rooms that house Optical Line Terminal Equipment and associated Fiber Management Systems.

Also they shall be used in cabinets and boxes located in customer’s building where transmission equipment are provided and owned by telecom operators. Each Optical Splitter shall be available as a unit or modular configuration, with or without pre-installed input and output connectors. For more details about Optical Splitters you can READ MORE HERE

USE OF OPTICAL SPLITTERS

Splitters shall be used to optically split power from optical fibers in passive optical network to multiple customer premises, operating in all wavelengths in the optical spectrum from 1260nm to 1650nm.Used in exchanges, closures, equipment cabinets, boxes and main equipment rooms.

Used in cabinets and boxes located in customer’s building.Various Optical Splitters configurations shall be made available, with split ratios (1: N or 2: N, where N is 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32) with different encapsulations for a wide range of applications.

HOW YOU CAN DEFINE OPTICAL SPLITTER?

Optical Splitter is passive optical devices that connect three or more fiber ends, dividing one or two input into two or more outputs. Here it is also important to explain about the FBT and PLC. Optical splitter has many input and output terminals to attain the branch of the light beams and maximize the functionality of optical network circuits.

Fused Biconic Tapered (FBT): A FBT coupler is a device that efficiently couples light from one fiber to another by aligning two adjacent fibers from which the buffer has been stripped, and subsequently heating and stretching them, creating an input taper, output taper either side of the fused coupling region.

Shall be designed for 1:2, 1:4 & 2:4 configurations, with or without pre-terminated connectors.
The fiber output ends for splitter with connectors shall be equipped with LC/APC type connectors.
Shall be used in Optical Splitter Frame (OSF) which located in the exchange or inside outdoor distribution enclosures.FBT optical splitter can be deployed in a cost-effective manner in today’s fiber optic market.
FBT splitters are widely used in passive optical networks, especially in the network where the split configuration is not larger than 1×4.

Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC): Planar Lightwave Circuit is a technology used in passive, fiber-optic component manufacturing. It uses semiconductor (i.e. integrated circuit) fabrication techniques, to build compact, fiber-optic devices, such as high-count splitters (e.g.1:32), resulting in devices that are smaller and more robust.

With the rapid growth of FTTx worldwide, the requirement for larger split configurations (1×32, 2×64, etc.) in these networks has also grown in order to serve mass subscribers.

Shall be designed to accommodate the following configurations, with or without pre-terminated connectors:1:2,1:4,2:4,1:8,2:8,1:16,2:16,1:32,2:32.
Splitter with split ratio of 1:2, 1:4 or 2:4 & 1:8 or 2:8 shall be used in Optical Splitter Frame (OSF) which located in exchange or in specialized outdoor closures.
Splitter with split ratio of 1:8 or 2:8, 1:16 or 2:16, & 1:32 or 2:32 shall be used in street cabinets, specialized outdoor closures or termination boxes located in customer’s building.
The fiber output ends for splitter with connectors shall be equipped with LC/APC type connectors.
Splitter with split ratio of 1:2, 2:4, 2:8, 2:16, & 2:32 shall also be available without connectors.

The Optical Splitters shall be made compatible with Telecom Company’s optical network requirements, operation and maintenance standards and practices.

The Optical Splitters shall be able to be efficiently handled and managed during installation, securing and storage.

All metallic parts of the Optical Splitters shall be corrosion-proof and all polymeric parts shall have a flammability rating of V-0 to UL 94.

Each Optical Splitters shall be individually packed, placed in a box with complete description. The individual Optical Splitters package may be multi-packed in a strong, weather resistance carton boxes, suitable for shipping, handling and storage.

Optical Splitters may be pre-assembled in other equipment such as FDT, and respective packing specification of the equipment shall apply. All Splitter Connectors (LC/APC) shall have protective end-caps or covers.
