Reliability and availability of GSM Network

GSM signaling network's reliability and availability :  I am going to give you some information through this article on how to make the GSM signaling network strong, reliable and more availability. Some information will be given in very short, which will be very beneficial for all of you.

In the telecom sector, the reliability and availability of the network is a very important issue, which is taken care of by all service providers. In other words, we can say that the soul of telecommunication sector is the network's reliability and availability. Those working in the telecom sector who do not understand the importance of reliability and availability of the  network, their jobs are always in danger.

Network Reliability

I never challenge that the information given by me is the best but can be very much beneficial. We need to make the GSM signaling network more reliable, use one E1 line for connecting the network elements to one STP.

Frequent LS(Link Set) down due to unstable network condition at the initial stage of service should be taken considered-

All signaling links connected to the LS would be down when the transmission lines or the facilities is failed  because there will be only one physical E1 line available  between the network elements and the STP.

Lost calls would be expected during the cutover between STPs & the processing load --- status management function.

Conclusion / Recommendation
Deployment of the alternate E1 line for those network elements would be recommendable even though there would only be one E1 required from the dimensioning point of view.

Half of the SLs of a certain network element would be allocated to one of the two E1’s , and the rest half of SLs would be assigned to the other E1 line.

It would be recommended that the two E1 lines of a certain network element will be connected to the different STPs respectively.

Network Availability

For the Network Availability Co-location of the IP(Intelligent Peripheral)s in ILTs and using ‘F’ link for its signaling.

We all know that in any network IP has limited connection feature for its signaling links so 10 E1(max), only 1 SL is assignable per E1. Required 2 SLs for connection to each systems because of its A/A(Active/Active) structure.

IP is deeply related to SCP & SMS(Service Management System) for its functioning and shares a lot of DB’s with those systems, and IP is interoperated with SCP & SMS through the TCP/IP link.

Conclusion / Recommendation
Direct connection of IP to the STP would be better solution for improvement of O&M efficiency & network simplicity.

It would be recommended to co-locate the IP with SCP.

The second most important issue of network availability is - signaling for Inter MSC. The signaling for Inter MSC - Intra Circle calls will be carried on ‘F’ Links(Associated Signaling Links).

The ILT switches & MSCs will be also connected to the STP. The signal processing load of the STP for handling the ISUP call processing would be comparatively low.

Inter MSCs traffic would be also low because of the “Limited Mobility” in network service provider.

Direct associated signaling link structure for only ISUP call processing between inter MSCs traffic within a Circle would affect on complexity & inconsistency of office data, C7 linkage method and increase facility investment

Conclusion / Recommendation
It would be recommendable for using only the link between ILT switches & MSCs and STPs as for the signaling link, instead of using both signaling link to STP’s and ‘F’ link to other inter MSCs.

Last word

One is also true that those working in the telecom sector do not have time to read a long article, so the article has been written in very short mentioning specific points. The reliability and availability of the network has to be maintained; easy tips will have to be kept in mind, however, how did you all like this article " network's reliability and availability"?
